BACK TO SCHOOL READ ALOUD | A TIGER TAIL

Read Alouds are one of my favorite things in the whole world. As teachers start getting ready for back to school, I frantically start searching for the perfect back to school read aloud book which my students would love. This year, I chose the book “A Tiger Tail” by Mike Boldt. My students thoroughly enjoyed the book and the author does an amazing job of caling down the first day jitters of young students in a cute and fun story.

This back to school read aloud book was perfect to teach Author’s purpose to the students. We usually start off the year with introducing the students to the author’s purpose for writing the book. I used these posters and worksheets to make sure they completely understood the differences between the different purposes.

BACK TO SCHOOL READ ALOUD : Grammar

Since it was the start of school and students are still stuggling with writing their thoughts in complete sentences, we covered All About Sentences using this book. Students learned how students convey a whole idea, begin with a capital sentence, and end with a period.

This anchor chart turned out so cool as students wrote examples of Sentences and Not a Sentence on Post-it notes and added to it.

These worksheets helped the students to further practice their sentence writing skills.
