With the recent closing of schools due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID – 19), elementary teachers are looking for ways to teach remotely. If you are like me, and are always looking to start your day with your students on a positive note, building their self-awareness, then this resource is meant for you!!
Morning meeting is an engaging way to start a new day and an easy way to build classroom community. Teachers try a variety of things in morning meetings, one of which is building self confidence activities. Building your students’ self-confidence requires teacher guided reflective thinking so the kids can discover their strengths and powers. Use these slides to help your students record their thinking and reflections.
Teachers continue to build classroom climate by allowing students to share their reflections and communicate their thoughts about topics revolving around themselves.
Morning Meeting is a time when the class can work together to solve current classroom issues or discuss ways to improve their personal character development.

NUMBER LINE ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION:
Teaching addition and subtraction is not so hard if done in a systematic manner, step by step.
First, start off by teaching students how to show any number on a number line. Then, teach them how the first number in a number sentence tells us where to start from on a number line.
When the students have mastered that, next we move on to learn how we hop forward in an addition sentence and backward in a subtraction sentnece. And, the second number in a number sentence tells us how many hops we make.
The last step is to learn that the point where we stop, gives us the answer in a number sentence. Students practice all these steps individually and then move on to slides where they do all these steps together to show their learning.

SCIENCE DIGITAL RESOURCES
OCEAN ZONES:
Learning about the ocean zones is always a fun unit in our first grade. However, this year was a little different since we had to modify it a little bit for Distance Learning.
So, I went ahead and created this resource in Google Slides to assign it to my students in Google Classroom. We started off by learning the names of the ocean zones. Then, we learned all about the Sunlight Zone.
Next, was the Twilight Zone. We learned about the animals in this zone and their special characteristics.
Next in line was the Midnight zone which was the most fun because of all the light features that the animals in this zone have.
Then, we moved on to learn about the animals in the Abyss and the Trench and their adaptations to survive in these environments.

ALL ABOUT OCTOPUSES:
While learning about the oceans, we also learned in depth about a lot of animals, one of which was Octopus.
We dove into this unit learning about its habitat, body facts, what it eats, and its babies etc. The students were so engaged throughout this unit, that they did not even realize they were actually learning.
