The amazing Rainforest habitats cover between 6 and 7% of the world’s land surface, yet are home to more than half of all the world’s animal and plant species. In addition, it is thought that there are millions of species living in rainforests that are still to be discovered. Teaching students about the wonders of the amazing rainforest habitat always makes me excited since we can incorporate so many fun activities with tons of learning.
We read tons of books to learn about the Rainforest Habitat which enriched the students’ learning along with a lot of fun crafts. Who knew firsties could learn about the different layers of the Rainforest as well as remember the names of different plants and tell details about the wonderful animals found there. We started off with students having very little knowledge about the rainforests and ended up with them brimming with interesting facts and details about this habitat.
Layers of the Rainforest Habitat:
We started off with learning about the different layers of the rainforest. We learned what each layer looks like and how the animals and plants of each layer have adapted to their surroundings.
Included in this unit, are also posters to use as visuals for the students for all the layers of the rainforest. You can print and laminate them and put them up in your classroom or use them as handouts to give to students.
After learning about the layers, students jotted down their learning in their journals using these printables.
Rainforest Plants:
After that, came the fun part! We dived into learning about the plants found in the rainforest. We studied each plant in detail learning how it looks like, where it grows and some interesting facts about them.
Rainforest Animals:
Then, came the animals of the rainforest. We learned about each animal’s diet, their life as babies and adults, and their home in the habitat.
You can find these printables over here.
